The idea of establishing the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization began when the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), at the request of the Egyptian government, announced an international campaign to establish the Nubia Museum in Aswan and the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Cairo.
